Icon5 Liter tick question

so in my 2006 2.3, I have a lifter tick and I was wondering if I need any special tools. I am not the most mechanically inclined the only slightly mechanical thing I've done is replace the brake rotors and drum brakes. But, I would like to learn how for the sake of learning and saving money, but I want to do it without hurting my engine anymore. Is removing the head and pushing the lifters through the best to not damage the head? Or should I just remove the valve cover and remove them that way. Any advice about dealing with the timing, removing camshafts, gaskets removal/replacement, and all the parts I need is helpful.
