Icon5 Did I do something dumb???

Hi guys............

Please bear with me until I get the hang of this Ranger thing.I am new--actually very new--to the Ranger.I got mine about 4 1/2 weeks ago (this cash for clunkers thing was to good a deal to let pass).I got a 2009 2.3L with the 5 speed.

The issue is the following.About a week and a half ago,one morning I woke up feeling like second-guessing the Twin Cities plant.I went to the truck and started checking all of the fluid levels.........everything was fine. When I got to the clutch master cylinder reservoir,I started to remove the cap,and before I was even halfway through the threads,it fizzed and dumped some fluid under pressure. It caught me by surprise, and my reaction was to tighten the cap back up.Never finished taking the cap off,or looking at the level inside. It didn't dump that much fluid--not even a full ounce. This happened before I started the truck that day,so it was overnight cold.Is this pressure in the system normal? Could I've caused any damage with this? Was this a dumb thing to do?

Thanx!

When the fluid was originally installed it probably was at a low temperature(Lets say the plant was at 65-70).Raise the temp 20-30 degrees(Warmer in FL than Twin Cities) and fluid will expand.
The only damage will be to painted surfaces from the spilled fluid.

Yes you did do some thing dumb. Never, ever second guess the Twin Cities. EVER!

Second of all its the St. Paul plant.

haha joking aside, im gonna agree with OTRtech. The change in temps change the volume of the liquid.

Dang, sounds like my 07. If this one is anything like it, I think that plant is SOL.

did you make sure to wash off the brake (clutch) fluid after it spilled?

i would probably take the cap off the rest of the way, get that excess pressure out of the system, and let the fluid settle back down... make sure you have some dot 3 brake fluid on hand, incase it over flows, and then shrinks back down or something... you can top it up... if anything f-ups you can always go back to the dealer, you have a waranty... just say you were doing a regular check of your vehicle and it freaked out and spit at you

oh... old thread... oh well
