All 01+ 2.3 the same?

I am looking for a 2.3 for an 01 and have run across one from an 04, but the interchange lists it as 04-06 only. I know it cant be too awful much difference, but does anyone know just what the differences were to make the interchange stop with 01-03 and 04-06????

the changed the front end of the truck (hood, grill, etc.) for '04, thats why it's listed differently. The engine is the same physically and most likely the exact same sensors also. If there is anything that has been changed it may be a sensor or two however those can be swapped over from your old engine if any are different. As far as physically and mechanically they will completely interchange with eachother.

01 was the only year for the 2.3 with egr, they removed it in 02

also the went to a different cam starting in 02 which raised hp and torque

Is the EGR something that can be gotten around by using the stock exhaust and intake? I can't remember just where thats all located right now.

Thanks for the help!

the EGR would bolt onto your intake manifold, so just use your current intake manifold on the newer engine. Again, the blcoka nd head will be physically the same and bolt up the same, you may just have to use your accessories and possibly your sensors and other things but you have all of those off the current motor in the '01. So for like the EGR issue just use your current exhaust and intake manifolds on the newer head.
