BLUE MAGIC, best stuff for under 10 a bottle, if lights are pitted or have road grime them a medium-soft sand paper >300 works wonders. SCRUB, SAND, BLUE MAGIC, WIPE OFF repeat as needed, can find this stuff at advance or AutoZ

I've tried almost all of the "headlight restoring" kits with bad results compared to wetsanding. If you wet sand with the proper technique then it will take care of the problem.

As for wax on black trim I use really hot tap water with a good amount of Dawn dish soap and an old toothbrush. Works well for me but can be time consuming.

X2...dads VW gets real bad and i wetsand with 1500grit and then buff with compound and then wax them...they look brand new! have to do it again every once in a while because they cloud up again...and doing it that way is a hell of a lot cheaper than those damn restoration kit

go to any auto parts store and get 1500 grit wetsanding paper and sand the lights until they are completely smooth and now low areas(you will see them when you start sanding) then use rubbing compound and a buffer...i use meguairs ultimate compound...they will look brand new when your done and then i wax them...that helps protect them and keep them looking clear a little longer but you will have to do it again after a little while

Any rubbing compound and a rag is all you need, they will look brand new. All that headlight restoration stuff is probably the same thing just 5x as much.

If you have a Buffer or access to one, Use a heavy wool pad with some Wizards finish cut wax. I use this method at work all the time and it works great.

EDIT: I just noticed how old this post is lol.

For the black trim try a good bucket wash and then armour all tire protectant sprayed on a clean cloth and apply to the plastic and rubber parts!

In getting wax off the plastic trim or flares on the Ranger, I've always had success with the common pencil erasers we used when we were in school.

hey man, i know what you mean about the wax on the black trim. i use Mothers Back to Black on my black trim ( i have an XL, so pretty much my whole nose. lol) it works great and it will make it look brand new again. hope this helps!
p.s. for your rubber (weather stripping, shift boot, etc) use mothers profession rubber and vinyl cleaner. it works wonders on that stuff.

I use a cheap method for cleaning headlights, Get a bench grinder with a polishing wheel, pull the headlights off the car, first use polishing compund, then windex, then regular car wax. It works wonders. heres a pic of my old car showing the before and after.
