Restoring a Greasy rusty air Cleaner.
I did some work on my air cleaner in preparation for the snorkel. I did have a lot of time to work on the Bronco or I would have focused on getting the rear seal switched out.
I purchased the Por 15 Engine painting kit it was adout $52 with shipping. I could have gone a cheaper but the air cleaner is really greasy and rusty. The kit comes with every thing you need to complete a whole engine. Here is the a pick of the kit and the air Cleaner.
POR-15 is a Primmer that is supposed to stop rust permanently when used correctly.
How POR-15 is not a one and done process. The POR-15 is the third step in the process
The surface need to be degreased, The a metal Prep needs sprayed on and allowed to completely dry. Then the POR-15 is applied.
I started by giving the air cleaner good scrubbing with a brass wire brush to knock off loose paint and rust.
Then I sprayed the air cleaner with the Marine clean which is the degreaser.
This stuff is tuff stuff. Here is the air cleaner degreased.
Step 2 Metal Ready is a metal prep that neutralizes rust etches metal and leave a coating on Zinc behind.
Here is the After
Step 3 POR-15
I brushed on the POR 15 with the Supplied brushes. Here are some PICs of them painted
I had to stopped and did not get to finish the air cleaner. POR-15 takes up to 4 hr to dry.
I will be finishing off the air cleaner off with an Engine enamel. The enamels color is Ford Corporate Blue. I will post the pics once I have finished Painting it.
