running a ported and a non ported box

I have a alpine type r sub in a ported box which really thumps, and i recently got a kicker sub for free. The kicker is in a sealed box. I hooked it up to another amp and it did get bassier but are there any negatives to running two separate boxes, one being ported and the other being sealed. I am capable of building a new box if need be, but then i see the air space size becoming an issue. Any thoughts or ideas would be great thanks

Why dont you just sell one of the sub/box combos and then buy another matching sub and build/buy a matching box or build/buy a new single box for both?
