Got my Dayton Bananna Plugs, and Box Inserts in today! Probably the most expensive of the smaller pieces I bought, but the quality of these are amazing!

Streetwires ZeroNoise RCA Cables - The best bang for the buck! 5 meters to treat me from front to back with a small coil in case anythign needs moved around ever (Probably wont happen, but better to be prepared than not!)







Streetwires 4 Gauge Power Kit.. its the aluminum oxide/copper shielded type - 18 feet of it.. I didnt feel like paying for full copper-strand power.. but since I'm not going to be running a thousand watts, the aluminum based cabling is more then plenty for me.. the kit comes complete with 4 feet of 4 gauge ground cable, 80amp fuse, and all the hardware/REM Cable to get things connected.







Dayton Bananna Plugs - Very high quality.. will use for plugging from the amp to the box itself (Box end will use the plugs, Amp end will use bare cabling..)







Dayton HD Binding Posts - the best way to go from your sub, to the outside of the box - saves having to cut out a big **** square/round hole to fit one of those cheesy plastic cups in with plugs - 1/4" hole, tap in with a hammer, silicone the edge and done!

I cant do too much more until Thursday - then I get to shop around and find some good carpet :-) Its honestly going to be cheaper to order online, as with everythign is for me - costs me 15 bucks jsut to get into town and back including some driving - I woudl rather take that 15 bucks of gas money, and put it into my next mod - free shipping + internet wholesale prices are the way to go :-D


So, end time on project:
Thursday = Payday, order goods then.. get them on Tuesday/Wednesday of next week.. depending on when days off and how things go - I should be done by the friday of that week, perhaps saturday/sunday.. workign with what I got - and money sucks sometimes, haha.. Bill check on the last one - so it stripped me of good mod money :-D

A router Ill only use if it has the circle guide, or a damn good 3 or 4 flute bit for proper MDF - anything 3/4" MDF or bigger I will enver route..

I tried it again earlier cutting out some square with rounded edge cutouts to give some ventilation - and yeah.. I just butchered it up a bit, was easier to jsut drop a skil saw down into it for the bite, and use my Dremel/Jigsaw Attachment to get the smaller edges. A bit of sand paper, and its golden!


Need to get out there and cut out the second slot too.. darn stuff.. I already have some fine mesh metal fence stuff I'll be using to guard the port holes from any debris.. can't wait to get thigns wrapped up and get the sub booming way in the truck!

 

I got the same RCA's in mine. I really like the connections from the amp to the box, box to sub. I'll keep those in mind when you build my next box for me!

 

Its amazing how much cleaner and nicer looking routing the edges makes a box look. One of those little things that moves from just a normal box to a exceptional one. Keep up the good work!

 

When I get mine all finished up, I'll see what I can set up for ya.. The biggest pain in this, again, is money - Its not very expensive making one of your own compared to buying one - but little things here and there take time and money to order.. can be a big hassle for sure!


Right now I'm sitting here debating if I should run outside and get anotehr hours worth of work put into it... Unbolt the seats, run cabling - I dont have a grommet for punching through the floor of the truck though - so I cant run the power.. meh, I'll just wait till payday. *sigh*

 

Mike...you've got like 8 floor grommets you could use. They all used up? Namely the one near the back corner towards the outside?

 

Yeah, I was looking at that one earlier today, it pops up almost right in the middle of my box - Thats the one yoru thinking of right? Goes up right in the middle of the back space area there? Or is there one even clsoer to teh corner? Im tempted to do a double grommet style, and pop a hole right at the bodymount into that cavity, and then from there with a grommet, pop another hole in the body mount cover grommet to make sure its extra quiet and no road noise comes through

 

On a random note - I am pretty sure Ill install a switch in the lower cavity and some clean wiring - and mount a few LED lights in there, give it a red underglow effect inside the cavity where teh amp will mount - would onyl cost me an extra 30 bucks or so as I already have all the wiring needed for it.. woudl be fun and a bit neat, helps show it off when I open up the side door and flick the switch with some bass pumpin - woudl only take me all of 15 minutes to run wiring and a switch onto it, lol

 

Yep...would be right below the sub. Might make for one hell of a clean wire job too. I've got my 4ga amp wire running through the steering grommet.

 

Hmm, Ill have to check where that 1/2" padding starts.. If I am thinking right, it literally comes right to the edge of that gromment, and in taht case - I coudl tighten the box down with a bolt and it would come up nice and clean there.

The wiring on this will be one of the cleanest youll see - my plan is to take two holes on the bottom of the sub and do sort of what I did with the box subwoofer mount and the larger diameter hole it fits into - do that but with the plug in gromments, so you wont see any wire anywhere in the vehicle unless your peeking up through under the receiver at the RCA's - Might even use some black loom to hide it as much as I can.


Custom is the way to go! :-D

Hey bud, if your looking for a custom box - how big of a sub do you think you'll try to go? Keeping at a 10 or 12 or whatever is in your truck currently?

dbag i know has one 15 in his sdime and it takes up the entire back of the cab. good luck getting 3 in there and making it sound decent lol

 

Unbolted my drivers seat, and took a look at the grommet at the rear - it pops up about 1" into the end of my box, so I will go ahead and cut out a slot and feed the power up right there.. will probably find a bit sturdier of a grommet, maybe one of the ones Crutchfield has, since its a direct patch through to where the weather is - might get a tad rafty/moistureish if I dont seal it properly. Will go ahead and cut the slot tonight, but will wait till i find a grommet before I run this stuff, or else Ill have to pull it all back through to put one on - more of a pain to do it now, as opposed to waiting till I have aproper grommet to seal it up. Will probably go ahead and put a small bead of silicone on it too, keep it protected properly.About to pop off my radio bezel and connect the RCA's and REM.. jsut cam einside for a snack, didnt realize how hungry I was till I started working and my tummy growled a few times on me =)

I get off work at 11:30 for my 8 hours, usually later - I honestly dont get to sleep until about 5-6AM, then wake up at 12 noon or 1 pm and do the same thing over :-)

This is my normal thriving time, lol.. its nice and peaceful at 3 AM out in the shop with the radio going, power tools whirring, and not a soul to complain about it or bug me =)

 

It'd still be a 12, unless I love the sound of your 10 you're doing. I'd like it to be similar to 08xlt4x4's...basically replacing the passenger jump and the jack rack. And it'll also be a place for an extra amp in case I would like to power the four 6x8's too. Just like Keith's but opposite...

Heck yes! Got my JBL Amplifier in today! Will snap a few pictures and post them up here in the next few minutes... figured I should treat page 3 of this thread to a few more photo's :-)


Also ordered up 15 feet of 12 gauge speaker wire for the installation, and a high quality grommet for the main power feed.. standard stuff - still wishing i was made of money and could have just bought it all at once from the get-go :-D

 

Oh gosh, so sorry about that last post - I went and took a bunch of pictures, but got extra busy -

Anyway - todays project: Finish it all!

I just finished carpeting the lower enclosure, took some pictures, and they are uploading to photobucket as I type this - looks fantastic!

Carpet ise - I went to Home Depot and got some of there indoor/outdoor carpet - has a nice tacky backing, and very sturdy carpet face - will suit well for when I toss stuff into the back of the truck, I wont have to worry about dinging anything back there.

Expect pictures in about 4 minutes - photobucket has been awful slow for me lately :-(
