head unit works and amp and sub but no sound from speakers??

Well that should work no problem, especially since your subs still work, but try the door speakers now. Take out one of the speakers and hook up that extra speaker that you have and see if that works. And another question... just incase, this is when your on the tuner or CD Player right? I have my MP3 player hooked to my radio and the wire came out a tad and my front speakers stopped workin and went insane and kicked the hell out of my panels and than saw that it was out and felt like a dork, but than again you said you smelled the electrical fire smoke. Take out a door speaker, test it on the amp line and use that extra speaker and test it on the front door wiring.

what amp, the 4 channel or the deck built in amplifier? because the pre outs may still work but if u fried the decks built in amp youll smell that smell...ok ijsut blew my decks internal amp and it made the same noise and smelt the same, if your face plate comes off , take it off and smell with your nose like right up to the deck and if it reaks its toast ..or hook up speakers to the decks amplifier and see if they work..if they do youll have to check your speakers and wiring to them..better off yet jsut get a mono block amp for your subs or a 2 channel and put the speakers on the 4!
