Factory sirius antenna with sporster

I have sirius from factory in my ranger built into the headunit and with the factory antena in the roof. I am considering buying a sporster 5 reciever and using that rather than the stock sirius so that i can transfer the reciever to my explorer or portable sirius boombox. My question is i want to use my stock antenna with the sporster unit as it is already in the roof with no exposed wires. I am sure the connections are different, has anyone made this work before or is there some sort of adaptor out there?

I was wondering this too. No one at sirius could help and ford never emailed me back, except to say they were going to email me back.

i don't think you can, but why not just keep the factory unit active and get a second unit added to your account....

my wife wouldn't use it enough to make it work having a second subsription but i would use it a lot when i drive the explorer when we go places toegether with the kids. The main reason is i like a lot of the features of the sporster 5 so it would be nice to have in the truck, plus i can pull it out and use it at work too if i get a home kit as well as if i get a sirius boom box. pretty much i would like the fact i cna take the reciever anywhere rather than just have it stuck in the truck.

For anyone else who may be looking into this, i found the following. At end of the factory antenna that plugs into the sirius box IS an smb connection that will plug into any sirius unit, it just has a plastic connector around it that has to be uncliped and removed. So yes it will work. Only other issue is the antenna only reaches to the glove box area, as that is where the factory sirius box is, so an smb sirius extention cable needs to be used.

IM sure there has to be a Sat. Radio, or Sirus radio forum that will know. I just installed one in my Dad's truck and the hookup looks like there would be an adaptor.

umm i am telling you i know, no need to keep looking for an answer. I hooked up my sirius sportster 5 to my stock sirius antenna two weekends ago. it will work but needs an extension cable to reach the center dash area where most people mount it. The factory antenna uses a standard smb connection that all sirius units accept. Only difference is there is a plastic connector around the conection that needs to be removed

So how does the sportster hook up to the truck? Is it hard wired or through the air...?
You've got me interested now. I hate coming home and turning the truck off because whatever I was listening to I can't listen to in the house. I really find the jason ellis guy hilarious.

haha i love listening to ellis too.

I'll take pics of how i have mine mounted on the weekend.

I took the winndshield mount that comes with it and removed the suction cup. I attatched it in the little cubby next to the aux input. I used and extension and used the stock antenna and ran a black aux cable to the aux input so it is not fm modulated, i just hit the aux button on the stereo and listen through it that way. The power i ran behind the dash, the is no exposed wires or splices anywhere. I'll get pics
