alright i finally found the cash to put a component set up front, now im trying to decide..jl xr series or infinity kappa series. i dont hear much talk about infinity, but i have heard a few good reviews about jl's products in general. heres some links to the stuff im checking out right now:JL Audio XR570-CSi and INFINITY KAPPA 680.7CS

JL speakers are $220 shipped, Infinity's are $150 shipped. So whadda ya think?

Boston Pro 60s FTW!

You can get them on eBay for about $300 shipped.

boston's are a waste unless you have over 100rms per side

i ran mine on 250+ per side and they got crazy loud and still sounded good, great midbass if doors are deadened

tis why im getting me another pair for this vehicle
maybe the sl series already in the 6x8 size frame?

boston isnt the most ford friendly company. they dont make any 5x7/6x8 component systems. i plan on keeping the woofer in the door and the tweeter on the little triangle part at the top of the door panel, im definitely not going to try any kick panels since i will probably end up...well kicking them

just incase you didnt know, boston does make 5x7 components

and i know the Pro60's i had came with mounting brackets for 5x7/6x8
top right corner is the adapter

its so easy to fit 5 1/4 or 6.5s in the openings anyway, you can buy brackets or make your own

why do you think boston dosent make oval shaped speaker componets?

round speakers like 6.5s and 5 1/4s are superior to oval speakers, its why you dont see very many offerings of them, and its super easy to make other sizes fit anyways

i saw the speakers in the first pic, but i was looking for separate tweeters and woofers. as far as the pro60's with those mounting brackets, i stand corrected. i didnt know they came the brackets. im gonna look into them more now. thanks alot, ill report back shortly.

infinity will have better sound quality but less midrange than the jl set up. the jl setup will cost you some rms which equals more setup and time. for the price infinity which is what i have but the reference series coaxial which sounds amazing. there are better brands out there than both of these though. search some internet brads like MBQuart, Rainbow, and such. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!! i would also suggest converting to the circular style for the quality.

well i was checking out the pro60s but they are a little more than i would like to spend, $290 shipped off ebay. anyone know where they are cheaper? otherwise im looking to get the JLs in 6.5" and make or look for a bracket. im pretty much ruling out the infinitys since i keep hearing that the midrange isnt as good.

any suggestions on how to fabricate a bracket? i was thinking of using some sheet steel i think i have laying around. or, where can i get the bracket?

thanks alot for the help, hopefully this will turn out better then what i originally planned

You won't find the pro60s any cheaper than 290 off ebay. They are ~600 retail! I would say go with the Kappas over the JLs I think... Have you listened to them at a local shop or anything?

ive heard the infinity reference coaxials at best buy, but a few of the shops i know of around here dont have many speakers to listen to, mostly the well known stuff like pioneer, alpine, kenwood, and sony, i guess its all about the name becuase alot of people thinks thats all there is out there and dont do any research.

well, thinkin about the pro60s vs the JLs, i might end up going with the JLs becuase of the price, either way when i get the speakers im going to look for a new amp for them, so an amp to power the pro60s with about 150rms per channel is going to run me quite a bit. i also plan to deaden to the doors, so i need to spend a little on than. on that note, can you guys recommend a good place to buy deadening?

well i stay have a little more thinking to do, i just hope i dont daydream at work again lol

i had a set of rainbow SLC265 6.5s before i had the boston and the bostons blew the rainbows out of the water in my opinion, way better midbass and tweet, and i was looking for somethign alot louder

im not a fan of JL's either, ive been hearing good reviews on Crystal SSC6 componets, less than 200for a set

caraudio.com has a few people that use them, giving them 200+ per side with no problems so they can take power easy, also depending on how much power you want to run, pioneer premier's new componets are supposed to be nice, but not many people have used them, i know caraudio mag did a review and gave them one of theire highest scores but with a little money on the side anythign can have a nice score, but they are only 50rms ver nice looking though
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...263623,00.html

made a list of some good choice, im not looking at who is selling them, just a close price point and are pretty good/decent componets

different brands: focal, dls, alpine type X's, bostons, diamond audio, kicker...cant remember the rest

http://cgi.ebay.com/DLS-MS6A-6-5-2-W...QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/Focal-Access-165...QQcmdZViewItem

and i think you can get rainbow slc's for about 220 shipped i think
here is a sight that sells them but i dont see the 265 series just the 365 wich is a 3way for 216+shipping

It all comes down to what your "ear" likes. When testing new speakers, I found, that for me, the Infinity Kapa series was best.

The head unit you are going to hook to, also makes a difference. I have the Pioneer AVIC-D2 head unit and it sounds great!! That said - anything other then stock is an improvement.

Do your research before commiting. I like my infinity speakers but thats me. idont think you will notice the midrange difference if you have a sub. Rainbow, Focal, Boston(expensive), MBquart(make sure you get premium or q's), infinity kappa(great sq). Brands to stay away from: Sony, Pionner(low end), Lightning, AudioBahn. These are "good" companies but not what you are looking for.

if im not mistaken, he'll be using his 4 channel amp to power them.. so the headunit isn't too much of a concern. that is, unless he's not using the amp.

yes i will be using my four channel amp, but i will probably bridge it to 2 channel, that way i will be supplying 150 watts rms to each side, and i will loose the rear fill, but i dont think that will be a problem. i am also going to sound deaden the doors, probably with raamat(spelling?)

as far as the components, im leaning towards the DLS MS6A set, after having done some research and read some reviews, they sound like a good choice but im still not done yet.

I'd bite the bullet and go with infinity perfect's 6.5 around the 350.00 to 425.00 range per pair. Got them in a 3000GT and they are killer. Cost a lil but worth it to me.

just received a set of Alpine Type-X 6.5" Components , i decided i would guinea pig this one and go with something a little different. i will install them this weekend along with finishing up with the sound deadening.

i only have one question. I know these speakers a rated at 75W rms/ 300W peak and are 4 ohm, and with the 4-channel i have now my options are 60x4 at 4 ohms, 75x4 at 2 ohms, and 150x2 at 4 ohms. bamaboy and others have mentioned running enough rms power to nearly exceed the peak power rating on component sets, but im not too sure about it. do you think i should stick with 60x4 and keep my rear speakers or say **** it and push the 150 rms to each side and take out the rear fill?

i might try it both ways to see how it sounds. Ill try and take a bunch of pictures of the interior carnage my truck will experience this weekend
