You will need an amp to run the sub, I don't know if an amp can be hooked to the standard radio of a 97. I'm sure it can be done

yep all you need is a line converter. go to a local stereo shop and ask for one. there about 20 bucks and easy to hook up. there easy to hook up. ground and 4 wires that run into the speakers. 8 if its a 4 channel unit. some may have a remote built it in, some dont.

Truuf, but first check and see if the amplifier has a built in line converter, some do.. some dont, about half the amplifiers iv had in the past did, it could save you a few bucks if it does though, it will just be a little 4 wire connector thats probably never been used labled something like left and right speaker +/-.

What model amp are you thinking about using anyway?

Its the same way as an aftermarket converter, you just tap into the speaker wires for 2 or your speakers, it should be labeled left and right posetive and negative, pretty straight forward.

i suppose you could, but having an amplifier gives you a much better crossover then a head unit alone would give you, adjusting it correctly should eliminate the need for them really, iv had to sell/install alot of them in the past and haven't seen a noticeable difference when using an amp to power them, id say listen, use some common sense, set all your adjustments on the head unit to zero when you initially set it up and add whatever your listening habits like afterwards through your deck.
