Steering
Ok, since ur knowledge is pretty broad ill ask if u know what they might call the particular shaped shaft on the 98 ranger steering rack where the intermediate shaft slides onto and u put the bolt thru it at bottom. mine has a shaft then a u joint then more square shaft going up toward firewall. I have a lot of play in steering and was told to call summit or someone aftermarket for maybe a dual u joint replacement. they ask for dimensions and I told them its not a spline shaft. its 3/4 in round on one side, the other is flat on both side and come toward each other but not a point. I don't know what they call this shaft but I need a replacement. I'm hoping to redo the shaft in some way as to make shaft clear some shorty headers I got. I read on another forum a guy cut one of his primary tubes and made it so it can go around his shaft..lol

The intermediate shaft attaches to the rack input splines shaft.
They want you to remove the intermediate shaft, measure the size of the input shaft and count the number of splines, you also have to measure the connection point at the steering column.
If you have a lot of play in the steering, is it coming from the intermediate shaft ?
Have you checked the tie rod ends and other suspension parts?
Here are some of the parts you will need.

Yes I took the intermediate shaft off, the input shaft has no splines. its called a mustang paramyd shaft, bad spelling, its 3/4 in half round, the two flat sides that go toward each other and roughly 1/4 at top...I lost summit tech guy trying to describe that..lol. the other end is double d...

so having said that, I had it at work and the tech was doing an alignment and said the u joint at bottom of int shaft is going due to 3 inch body lift. he recommended I get a double u joint setup to take the stress of the angle. 2 different techs told me this, lol, b4 I get anything id love to see a 4.6 swap thread to see how they moved the shaft to fit the fat motor in there..those suckers are huge.
