3 hrs = 3 beer job ? ... Your garage runs a stricter policy than mine... 3 hrs labor here costs about 15 beers... Of course, thats probably why nothing ever gets done too...

Sounds like a whole lot of money into an engine thats just going to be taken back out. If your gonna build a 351, leave the 302 stock and complete the swap and build the 351.

91 Merc it was my moms old car we thought it was a bad motor got a new block with new internals and swapped the intake and the exhaust on it. and it still was having problems later on after we sold the car, we figured out what was wrong with it. the same suddering sintoms showed in my 1986 F-150 i had and we found a crack in the intake we are almost 100% sure that the merc had a crack intake because we swaped that back onto the "new" motor and it was still doing it. we even tryed 3 computer so that had to have been it. there was really nothing wrong with this motor at all besides the #8 cylinder was pumpin oil later on after i took it apart today it looks to be that the oil ring on the piston failed.

ya the 5.0L is going in the splash. then later down the line this motor will find home in the silver truck as the splash gets to be a full drag truck.

Wait you are building the 302 for the splash right now, right? And then when you get the 351 built and ready, then that goes in the splash and the 302 goes in the silver truck?

Ok I see now.
