AOD Shifter Options

Hi,
Just put an AOD into my '86 with '89 5.0. The previous tranny was an FMX and the Hurst Pro-Matic 2 that went with it is clearly not right for the AOD. The online sellers show about 100 different choices. Can anyone suggest a good shifter? Don't care if it's a ratchet or not - just want it to stay in Park! Thanks!

Heyder. I have a 92 ranger with a 93 5.0/AOD . I used the cheapest B&M shifter i could find when i installed it. It's a "Sport shifter", pt#80776. It seems like it cost a lot more now than when i bought mine. Seems like it was only about $100.00 back then. It is a NON ratchet shifter and works fine with an AOD. I have since upgraded to a 4R70W and still use the same shifter. You just have to buy the correct istallation kit for whatever trans you have, which basically amounts to a new arm on the side of the trans.

Thanks for the info! I hadn't seen that item when researching. Turns out that the box of parts the truck came with had a B&M Quicksilver shifter in it. Its a 3-4 speed ratchet, so a simple blocker pin made it good to go. Don't really need the racer boy ratchet, but hey, it works. After buying a new skirt and cover though, I might have paid as much as a new shifter!
