6.0 Powerstroke in a ranger

Wow, my first post here.

First let me start by saying, I am not a troll, and I am dead serious when I say I am here looking to find out info on putting a 6.0 in a ranger. This is going to be a drag truck, and it is going to be done right. I have an 03 F-250 6.0, that runs high 12's with Nitrous. Long story short I have a 6.0 sitting around, some spare parts, a big ole turbo, and I am looking to shoe horn it into a ranger. I was hoping to find a forum where it has been done. I know about the hypermax Spal build, but am looking for something a little different. I am planning on a 2wd Ext cab, that way I can move the firewall back about 6"'s. The tranny and rear end are going to be interesting, but its all in the name of fun. I am a moderator at one of the diesel sites, but I don't want to say it, because I am trying to start this thing off a little secrative.

So far the plan is a 2001 ext cab
my 6.0 with Casserly 250cc injectors,
A regulated return fuel system
Possibly a turbonetics super 72 Turbo, (I have a stock VGT turbo that can go on it, but what fun is that)
Built 5R110 transmission by Suncoast
probably a ford 9" rearend narrowed of course w/3:73 gears
4" cowl hood
completly gutted.
firewall set back a few inches along with the seats and pedals to keep everythign where it feels right.
Full 12 pt cage...through the firewall and all to tie the whole frame together so we won't need to box so much of the frame.
Gonna need heavier front springs and drop beams to get it down and still hold the motor up
custom motor mounts
Custom trans crossmember
custom driveshaft
mini tubs in the back with 15X12 wheels running a 32" slick
Possibly a 4 link
Painless wiring kit...maybe a 12 circuit set-up to keep all the lights and stuff working....it'll be much easier than trying to keep the original crap working after the dash is hacked up
GOOD brakes...maybe a Mustang Cobra retrofit(the spindles are the same)

So what do you guys think? My 03 with Nitrous is over 525 hp, and 1050 Ft pounds, and thats just a tuner, (SCT), intake, exhaust, Fuel system, and NX nitrous kit. We did some math, and were thinking mid 10's if it can hook up.

wow this thing would rip. Welcome BTW. I dont know much about it.

Only thing I can say is beef the frame up...ALOT. Fully box it. I have some friends with some modded desiels as well, I know they have a *** load of tourqe

That's quite an ambitious project! I can't recall ever seeing anyone put a diesel into a ranger before, much less a 6.0L one! Welcome to R-F!

Ford put one in, but they aren't available in the US.

custom tube frame, Dana 60 or Dana 80 axles (front and rear), and oh yea, need to widen the body of the truck......a 6.0 is too wide to fit in the fender wells of a Ranger...and a 6.0 is too long to fit between the header panel and the firewall.....

Thanks Guys, it is definetly an ambitious project, but one that will be a lot of fun. The 6.0 will fit width wise, but the firewall needs to be moved back a few, I am planning on 6". The Frame is going to have to be strengthened. I am planning a full 12point cage inside so that will also help. The good news is one of my friends is friends with the guys that built the Spal 6.0 powered ranger that tried for the world record in speed. We are trying to get ahold of him so we won't have to "reinvent" the wheel on a lot of stuff. Hopefully they will share. Yeah the diesel is no doubt a fun engine. The one going in the ranger I am aiming for over 600HP on fuel and well into 700 on Nitrous, and 1200 or so torque. I don't know what a supercab weighs, but I am guessing around 5000 or so with the diesel and tranny in it. That should be good for 10's easily.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming. I am looking for a mid 90's or newer ranger Ext cab with with either very high mileage, or a blown motor. Obviously I am not going to need much of the stock components. If anyone finds one please let me know. My email is available here, and I will probably be checking in here often.

Im pretty sure a 2wd supercab ranger weighs about 3300lbs. A regular cab ranger weighs about 3000lbs.

I think you are off a bit on the weight. My 4x4 4 door extended cab weights 4520. I know another guy with a v8 2000 traihead standard cab that is ~3750lbs. The new trucks are HEAVY!

Sounds like a very reasonable project and that you are up front with the knowledge of what is needed and being realistic. Yep, frame and cage are good ideas. Working with some of the guys here and on rangerpowersports will be good to try and figure out how to hook up. You need to speak with "Captain" over on RPS - he runs a drag ranger with Very good results.

Ford never offered a v8 in rangers...yet

I believe I am just shy of 4k loaded up. 2wd though.

I looked up the weight, and alot of sites are sayin in the 3000-3200lb range for a regular cab.

Where did you get that? 4500lbs is a bit much for a ranger. Full size trucks weigh on average 4500-5400lbs depending on if its 2wd or 4wd, 5500lb max for a 4wd extended cab. I checked both ford f150 and dodge 1500, and there is no way the little ranger weighs anything close to a full size truck. It might, but I really doubt it.

just cause its not offered doesnt mean it exists... i wouldnt doupt it from Todd his 99 is a v8 also....

I hear ya, but I don't understand why he would be comparing a "modded" v8 trailhead to a scsb 4 banger in weight...two totally different spectrums.

is it a built engine? just run it hard so the engine lasts. how much you got on your 6.0 now? they are good engines if ford hadn't messed with them.

Nitrous, Propane, and water injection all at once. lol

they can do some crazy stuff with diesels.
that ranger is a 3 stage. supercharger on stage one then the two turbos on stage 2 and 3.

I am really not sure why they are supercharging it. most drag diesels they bring the boost up before they ever leave the line.

eh idk i bet they weigh more then you think, when i loaded mine up on the trailer it seemed alot heavier then most people claim online.

My four rims/tires alone weigh about half as much as my entire Kia Sephia it seems like. lmao

Modded trucks are always hella heavier.

Man what rock have you been under? lol You wouldn't believe how many bottles our competitors went through at Diesel Power Challenge this year. Infact alot of people arn't even running Water/Meth or Propane anymore because NO2 is so great for diesels, they LOVE it!

might be but mine is missing a bunch of stock frame. lol i am sure i added it all back up though.
