Stock vs Other trucks (racing)

I was wondering how you guys did against other trucks while stock or whatever you have. I raced a (late 90's) Dodge V8 Mag Ram the other night and beat him out to my suprise. However I was wondering how these trucks did against the V6 S-10s and Tacomas and the Frontier. What have you guys beat/lost to? I'm trying to get a feel for where the truck stands among other things.

my friends 4.0 supercab (4.10 l/s too) beat my dads silverado and f-150...he raped the f-150...by about 3 cars. he got the silverado by about a car...when the silverado was stock.

now, he can't stand a chance (it's chipped, full exhaust (real duals), full intake, fuel injectors, tbs, lockers (front and rear...like it matters ) on 32's...I beat him pretty good. he's got the hypertech 93 octane setting on "performance"...whatever that means

and if it means anything...same kid (4.0 supercab) lost to a stock 3500 cummins q/c longbed by a car and a half (about) and fully modded you can barely see him in the rearview of the dodge...(truck has almost every bolt on except larger turbo)

theres my stand on the 4.0

now as far as my 3.0...well I get raped by everything, I don't even try, seriously. I have a hard time accellerating on the on ramps of the local highways...NO JOKE

The 3.0...is three slow. Well maybe because I'm coming from a 400 hp fully built 350 ZZ4 crate motor It only ran 14's though (traction problems)

From my experiences....(all based on BONE STOCK)

Win = win for Ranger....

2001-2006 Ranger 4.0 SOHC 2WD Auto VERSUS:

2005 Frontier 2WD Ext cab (6-speed/Auto): Loss/Tie

2005 Toyota Tacoma 2WD king cab, Auto: Win

2005 Tacoma X-Runner (6-Speed): Loss....barely

2005 Colorado Ext. cab I-5: WIN

2006 Dakota V-8 2WD: WIN (LMAO) <---I've witnessed this

1999-2002 S-10 4.3L: WIN

I beat a Nissan Titan crew cab with my 3.slow on 35s. Only raced to 70 though from a light.

I beat Suburbans, Tahoes, Excursions, Expeditions, Armadas, basically any big and heavy SUV. Most trucks mess me up.

Crew cab Hemi trucks take me by a truck length to 70-80 range...

I can hang with most trucks from a stop, until I have to shift to 4th. First three gears are pretty short with the 4.88s...

my truck on light mods (gibson exhaust, intake, 87 bama tune) was dead even with a N/A 351W in a gen1 lightning (exhaust and intake...SC was bypassed on account of a rebuild hence the N/A)

'98 V6 stang manual w/ exhaust = killed from 0-60 ~2 car lengths (me running borla dual exhaust, intake, 91 bama tune and slightly deflating the stock tires for better launch)

Ford Focus zx3 = killed.

Ranger 3.0 = do i really need to tell you?

BMW M3 = killed me....from a 40mph roll...he was a little confused that he wasnt pulling away from me faster though

I dont race all that often.

I have traction issues these days (burnout through 1st gear on a dry nothing special launch)....time for fatter tires soon.

Stock 0-60 on my truck was measured accurately at 7.2 seconds.
Compare that number with numbers from sites like this one:
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

Some are supercharged while others you can get the TRD supercharger for like another 2 grand I think.

Good stories guys, I'm really suprised how much kick in the *** the trucks got. (4.0L anyway)

Love my LS espically!

i always smoke my buddies 03 nissan extrea he talks alot of crap about the ranger i whoop his a$$ on the street and on the trail hes always talkin smack even while i pull him out little mud puddles that i think a 2wd ranger stx with a 3.0 can make it though the only thing hes got is a crew cab on the ranger he might do good against a 3.0,but
most likely will still get smoked

D. you also know how to race your truck. You built your truck, you know what it can do, and how to do it...

I like to spank ricers, I do it whenever the opportunity arises. I did it with my Mustangs, I did it in my Grand Prix GTP, I did it in my 01 Edge, I did it in my SVT Focus, and I'll keep doing it...

My buddy has a 96 5.9L Dodge ram 4x4 reg. cab, short bed. Dual straight pipe exhaust.

Coming home from one of my hockey games...He was behind me trying to pass me...Well he slowed down so he could get a "head start" in going around me. Well since his exhaust is loud as hell i heard him mash it to the floor when he was about 30-40 foot behind me. We were going about 65-70 ish

I waited till he was just getting up by my rear bumper crossing into the left lane to pass when when i smashed it to the floor too. My front end was right next to his door when we were side by side. We stayed side by side for about a second, then i started pulling away.....He had no choice to get behind me again.

I also raced a 98 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0L. It was the same race as my friend with the dodge. Jeep got a head start behind me, we were doing about 65ish, and floored it, but he was forced to go behind me because he couldnt keep up with my 4.0.

All this racing was done while i am on 33's also......4.0 has good power when you mash it, just not peppy enough for me.

Mark,

I agree with you. Just cruising around town at low rpm the 4.0 feels kinda weak. Now, when I slam the gas it comes alive. I have no trouble laying black marks at will.

I raced a 5.0 v-8 in an early 90's F-150 and made him look slow.

All I want is alittle more torque!

Yeah I also noticed when I dont mash it the truck takes off the line slower then everything else. My 86 Tbird with a 302 in it would be off the line and a few car lengths in no time, however my truck seems to be passed up. I hope eventually with some more mods I'll get "crusing" power instead of just mash power. My friend said my truck had no ***** cause we were crusing and I didnt mash it. I then raced a VW Jetta 1.8T (my bud wants one over his Jetta 2.0L) and I smoked its *** pretty bad. After that he shut us mouth.

Assuming your 4L is an auto, the problem lies within... The Auto 4L's have a super tall first gear (you'll notice top of first is pretty fast) and your just luggin the **** out of the motor...

only reason my 4.0L takes off slow is because when i mash it from a stop i just peel out for 40ft. or more...however long it takes till it shifts to 2nd.

the 4.0ohv is significantly slower than the sohc...just look at the factory output numbers.

no big game cars/trucks take our rangers seriously...they think they will win, no contest, when they see a ranger...getting people to race is hard.

I raced a chipped 04 blazer and crushed him... i even gave him a lil head start

I totally embarised a kid in a 525i. He was talkin all this **** about how fast his car was and how he can beat lightnings. I beat him by 2 car lenths.. after that he went home lol

Thats all ive raced, and dont plan on more

Chevy, no problem...Any Jeep with a 4.0, no problem. Any Dodge with a 3.9/3.7, no problem.

As far as a Dakota with a 4.7, 5.2, or 5.9, I'd put my money on the dodge against any stock 4wd Ranger any day of the week...provided the driver knew, at least a little bit, about what he was doing.
