Serpentine belt noises

My truck is making a squeeking noise when I am accelerting. The guy at advanced auto said it was my idler pully so I replaced it and it stoped for a while and now it started up again. It is only when I accelerate not when I am sitting idle. Could it be a new belt is needed? Or is something seriously wrong.

Try a new belt...did you replace it while you were doing the idler? Alot of the guys here swear the Gatorback belt by goodyear it the best thing since cream corn. I dunno...i just went with an OEM since they were out of the gatorback. You can try doing the ol' bar or soap trick. Let your belt rub inside and out on a bar of soap. The wax will help stop the noise. You can always try a lil' 3in1 oil in the bearings???

like he said a lot of people swear by the gatorback including myself, stopped the noises in mine and also cost less than the OEM

Not sure if this is the same problem, but I have been fighting belt noises for some time. I've changed the tensioner, the belt, cleaned crap off the power steering pulley. Everytime I fix something it will stop for a month, but come back in full strength.

I tried getting a gatorback, but they were out. I should try that next.

Yes, get one. They last easily twice as long as the crappy oem belts. You will save money in the long run even if its costs a little more now.

Well I think I fixed it. The spring in my tensinor was shot, so it wasnt putting any tension on the belt.

I may have the same problem Dan. Were you getting a chirp like a cricket would make from the engine bay? Thats the only symptom I have on mine.

Get the Gatorback. Cheap at Autozone. $30 something dollars. I had to replace the tensinor in my '98 b/c of the chirp. fixed it.

Had gatorbacks on most all my trucks. love them.
