Unless you have already done some mods to your 4.0L that have resulted in a substantive increase in compression ratio, then there is no reason at all to tinker with the stock EDIS ignition system. It is more than robust for what you have.

so your more or less saying that this coil is pointless unless you have higher then stock compression... then why is mr jone's *** dyno showin noticeable improvement with his STOCK compression?

If not its only your opinion & sometimes opinions coming from some people are utterly worthless.

Summary of Ford DIS/EDIS "Waste Spark" Ignition System
Aside from any and all of the stuff I could read on the subject, my research also included correspondence with an electrical engineer who personally spoke with Motorcraft engineers about the design of the Ford EDIS ignition system, particularly as it relates to MC plugs and ignition parts.

with this thing and the Bama it is a sweet combo.......right now i have the spark advanced 4 degrees in every rpm range....i am going to play with it a bit more tomorrow after work or saturday with a little more spark......
i drove yesterday about 88 miles and made it on a little less than a quarter of a tank.....that is less than 5 gallons....got about 17.6 mpg and only about 25 miles of that was actually on a highway were i could run 70-80mph.......the rest was on 2 lane highway....granted with no stop signs and the cruise set on about 63mph....

I'm going to attempt to change out the coil & wires today Maurice. I've got the Truck going in for a major service next week & will have the plugs installed with a .65 gap then. I talked to the service manager & he will make sure it gets done correctly. For some reason they know me & the truck very well after only a few oil changes.

i think you will like the difference....whenever you install the coil you have to be careful with how the plug wires go back on.....it is different that the stock pack...make sure you lable them and then follow the instructions they give you with the new coil on were the wires go.......also you will most likely have to remove the orange (or whatever color it is on your truck) seal on the wiring harness plug that connects to the coil pack....if you dont it wont make a good connection and the truck wont start...
