Runs great and then dies???
Ok, i have a 91' Ford Ranger 4.0 5 spd 4x4 with the engine out of a 92' Ford Explorer automatic 4x4...Now, It starts right up and will idle and can drive it around for about 20-30 mins with no problems and then all of a sudden it just dies and will not start for about the same time it runs. The guy who did the engine swap on it gave up.... Any Idea's..... I've had the truck for 2 years and it has only gone 8 miles in my ownership..Please help!!

A couple of questions and some thoughts.
When it dies.. does it die as if you turn the ingition off? Or does it loose power then die.
When trying to restart does it turn over just as quickly as when it starts?
When it does start does it fire right up? Or does it fire up slow/rough/???
Some thoughts:
1) I've know of some better quality car alarm systems that will let a car drive for 2-3 miles then kill the ignition. Does it have a system like this?
2) It takes three things to make fire. It's not the air. So it has to be either fire or fuel. Since the ignition is easiest to check.. check it first.

Yes it just turns off like it would if i turned the ignition off, yes it turns over the same as it did when it starts, and yes when it does start it fires right up... It doesnt have a alarm system at all... it reads 35 psi of fuel pressure all the time so i dont think its the fuel pump.. I was thinking that a wire gets hot and just shorts out or something.. cuz it will run like a champ for a given time of 20-30 mins then just turns off.. hmm

I agree. I suspect the coil pac.
Before you buy one though. Get a cheap $5 spark tester at a parts store. It plugs in between the spark plug and it's wire. When there is spark this thing lights up so you can see it's working.
My money (if I were to gamble) is that it's the coil pac. What you describe is classic symptoms.

I'm new to this so I hope this can work but I have roughly the same issue. I have an 04 ranger edge and it never did this before till a month ago it just wouldn't start so I checked fuel and spark and I wasn't getting spark I replaced my coil pack. My truck runs great for about 30-60 min but then just dies. But mine won't start for atleast a day after like even with 4-5 hours of cool down won't turn on still cranks like it wants to but it won't start. And I'm seeing if anyone else can help me figure this out because my dad and I are struggling to figure it out. I appreciate the help from anyone and everyone.

Welcome to the forum
When it doesn't start do the 50/50 test
Spray fuel into the engine
Try to start it
If it starts, runs and dies then you have a fuel delivery issue
If it doesn't start then there is still a spark issue
50/50 no guessing
Along with year, 2004, you should also include engine model(guessing 3.0l) and manual or automatic, trans may not matter BUT............easy to include
