removing mechanical fan. ?
well im trying to install an efan, and ive finally stopped for the night but i got a problem.
for some reason the mechanical fan will not come off, but im prolly missing something.
i have
all four bolts off from the pulley.
all four bolts that hold the plastic fan off
the belt off
the pulley is loose
the shroud is loose
and it still wont come off.
any tips here? its prolly something stupid just aint figured it out yet.

the fan is screwed onto the water pump. You will need to put the other stuff back on as the pulley needs to be held so the fan can be unscrewed off the shaft. The easiest is to get a Fan clutch removal tool from autozone (free rental). It is basically a spanner wrench that goes over the four bolts on the pulley. With the pulley held in place (kept from spinning), you can unscrew the fan. It's about a 1-1/2" wrench you will need. I need to find the specific size to confirm. If you slip a pipe over the wrench it will increase your leverage. You can also use a hammer and bang the wrench to loosen it. I think the 4.0 is right-tighty lefty-loosey and the 3.0 is the opposite. That would need to be confirmed, but I know they are different between the two motors.
Hope that helps.

Yes. I was fixing to edit my post. The large wrench goes on the hex shaft. You need the resistance of at least the pulley and belt on to keep it from just free spinning. You may be able to use that resistance along with a hammer to knock it loose. Once it is loose it should come off easy.

its 30 bucks.
my efan is all installed and working great. well i guess it is, it hasnt kicked on as it is cold here.
only thing i need to do is find the solid purple wire under the dash for the a/c clutch thing. eventually id like to wire a led that lets me know when the fan is running and a manual override switch.

from another forum. He got the tool new for $15. Had both the hex shaft wrench and the pulley holding wrench. Brand new so nothing is rounded out:
ya, i went to advance(discount) auto parts because autozone didnt have it. it has the fan clutch nut wrench and the fan clutch holding wrench (water pump bolts one)
its made by AmPro #T75508, it was $14.99 plus tax down here
