Purchasing engine

I'm currently looking for a replacement engine for my 2003 4.0l v6 sohc Ford ranger and I'm wondering what other years fit it? I've been having trouble with my timing chain components and herd there were newer year motors that you didn't have to take engine out to fix timing chains or they were not as problomatic. I've been even searching on eBay any help please?

Basically 2006+ is a sure bet. Search the forums more or Google for more info. If you do that you'll find the answer you seek.

No, all the Rangers and Mazda B4000s 2001 and up used the same 4.0l SOHC engines
The 2005 and up had the newer tensioners installed, but same long timing chains, that never changed
And you should probably change these 2 tensioners every 70,000 miles on any year 4.0l SOHC engine

There is no newer or different engine that can just bolt in to replace the 4.0l SOHC

If you change a 2001-2004's timing chains and tensioners you have a 2005 and up 4.0l SOHC engine, that was the only difference over the years

I also have a 2003.

I had good luck with eBay when I came across a wrecking yard that put a video of the running 2008 truck on YouTube.

Soooooo, yeah. I bought it.

Already installed and running, but in swapping, I found the wiring harnesses were different, so use your harness.

Exhaust, motor mounts, brackets for the AC and alternator, all the same, but the PCV valve (it had an electrical connector?), oil pressure sender and coolant sender and sensor were different. Pennies at your local parts store for immediate gratification.
