Icon4 possible fuel sender issue

well today i have filled the tank and it took 44 litres of fuel
( even though the gauge showed just below half a tank )

it usually only takes aboot 31 litres to totally refill

i usually fill up just above a 1/4 tank ,, but my tank is only 64 litres ( i think )

how does 1 go aboot checking for possible faults at a fuel sender

ohms / volts readings

this problem has me stumped

any ideas people

Take the sending unit out of the tank and leave it plugged in. Put the ignition in the running position and slowly move the sending units arm up and down through it's full range of motion. You should be able to watch the gauge react to the movements. Obviously all the way to the top is full and bottom is empty. If it is all the way up and the gauge ain't following then the sending unit needs to be changed

the weird thing is,, the truck only has 26,500 klicks on it

there is no way a fuel sender should fail that quickly

( ah crap ! more money out of my pocket )
