Oil Pressure
97 ranger 4.0 245xxx Oil pressure sensor replaced about 6 months ago
Just get it inspected and registered on the way home 3 blocks from my house she start knocking. At the light before my house the oil pressure goes crazy i immediately turn her off. The ol lady comes and gets me and pushes it to the store next to my house. A few hrs later i come get it start it up she seems to run fine i take her home.
Next morning i'm like that was weird i start her she runs fine. So i tell myself let's see what happens i plan a trip to my buddies house about 20 miles away. She took about 4-5 miles to warm up and once she did the knocking comes back and the oils pressure goes crazy and she starts smoking under the hood. I shut her off and the ol lady comes get me.
Come back about dusk put some heavier oil in her. Again she starts right up and runs fine. Again temp take about 4-5miles to warm up. Get her back to the light before my house oil pressure goes crazy.

If this was my truck, I would stop trying to run it.
Verify the cooling system is full
I would change the oil and filter using the correct oil for the engine. ( I say this because
I do not know what oil you used or how much you added)
Did you over fill the crank case to add this new oil or was it low?
I would install a mechanical oil pressure gauge, then disable the fuel pump.
Crank the engine over to see exactly what the oil pressure is.
It sounds like the engine is overheating or you are losing oil pressure.
If it is overheating because of a lack of coolant, your temperature gauge may not work properly.
It may be overheating from lack of oil pressure or flow.
Either way check the basics just for piece of mind.

From reading your post and request for help it is clear that you have run it more than once after having possible oil pressure and or overheating problem.
I never usually get the background on the people I try to help.
It is important to me to stress the obvious on occasion, because some people
looking for help are totally clueless and wouldn't know what to do or not to do in every situation.
Anything I post is meant to be helpful to not only the original poster but anyone having a similar issue reading this thread that may not be as careful or knowledgeable as you.
Again I meant no disrespect to your knowledge and or abilities.
If you need any help please feel free to reach out and many of us will do what we can to assist.
