Need elp on VSS wiring.

On 2001 - 2003 Rangers Pin 68 on PCM is VSS OUT, its the positive half of an AC voltage signal, so you only need that 1 wire to any device that needs a speed signal assuming the device is also grounded to the vehicle(the other half of signal)
In 2001 Ford added an OSS sensor to all transmissions, including manual, this is connected directly to the PCM(engine computer), pin 84 OSS IN, and pin 91(reference ground in PCM, used with all sensors)
The PCM is programmable for tire size and rear axle ratio for speed calibration
PCM then converts the OSS signal to the corrected VSS signal and sends it OUT to speedo, cruise, GEM, and 4x4CM from pin 68
The signal is an AC voltage Sine wave, the pulses of the wave are the speed signal, and only the positive half of the waves are used, so devices that need a speed signal are grounded and connected to the grey/black wire to get the positive side pulse
Interesting thing on 2001 and up Ranger 4x4s, the PCM does the speed conversion when you shift to 4low, has to since there is no output shaft speed sensor on transfer case
