Mustang 4.0 sohc into ranger
Looking for some guidance, I have a 2004 ranger 4wd, 4.0sohc, auto trans. I may need to replace the engine in my ranger and was wondering if a 2010 mustang 4.0 sohc engine will work. What kind of modification will need to be done. They are both automatic transmission vehicles

Welcome to the forum
You will need to swap over your intake, and fuel rail and injectors, and most likely the oil pan(4x4)
Valve covers..........may be
The above has to do with Ranger engine wiring vs Mustang engine wiring
And use Ranger exhaust manifolds
Transmission doesn't matter to engines
You will just have to look at the accessories, i.e. alternator, water pump, power steering pump, ect............to see if they will work in Ranger, but you can just swap over your Ranger accessories and brackets
Things you want to replace
Knock sensor, the wires break on these so get a new one or check old ones carefully, its a pain to get to when intake is on,
Rear main seal on crank, again hard to get to and its a cheap part, so always replace this when an engine is out
Just as a couple of heads up
The 4.0l SOHC car engines have different Cams for less torque but more horse power, than the truck engines, not sure you would even notice this when driving but maybe when towing
The 4.0l SOHC originally(1997) had a balancer shaft in 4x4s when Ford changed to always locked front hubs, because front drive shaft was always spinning when driving, they were worried about a vibration, that never happened so the 4.0l SOHC in Explorers or Ranger 4x4s no longer had the balancer starting in mid-2000's
So not a concern
