Motorcraft FL-820s vs Mobil 1 M1-210

The filter that comes with your new vehicle is made by a company in west salem Ill. They don't label it at all.. and they are the makers of the aftermarket brand deutch. (sp?) However.. they do NOT make motorcraft filters that you and I would buy. I've "heard" it's made by pure-o-later. But that's only hearsay.
The "pure one" has a thicker casing, synthetic media, better valve, and better seal. I've had nothing but good luck with them so that's what I stick with. Usually they are $4-$5 at my closest advance auto.

Just DONT USE FRAM!!! At the O'riellys I use to work at we cut open all the filters and fram was the worst. The only reason I use mobile 1 filters is because I use their oil motorcraft is probably just as good but I dont really like fords stuff. When somthing needs replaced I go with non ford stuff

i use Motorcraft.....i belive that if it is good enough parts to go out on a new vehicle, then it will be on my vehicle........if a replacement part is needed, i go with motorcraft....

I use full synthetic and only change my oil every 7500-10k anyway so it's actually cheaper. I personally don't like OEM stuff in general because it is made on the basis of quality vs production cost. Ford wants enough quality for the least cost so I am willing to pay a little more for aftermarket parts that are better than "good enough for the price". The lubricating system is about the most important thing to keeping engine parts in good shape. I don't buy into all the snake oil products out there but if nothing else I will pay more for better oil and filtration. At least that way even if my truck looks like it's beat it will be running well.

This company is the sister company to the one I worked for. I used to go over there and use thier cyclatron (sp?) for my thermal water pump testing. I've personaly seen the OEM oil filters being produced. And again, they do *not* make the motorcraft you can buy at a Ford dealership or at your local autoparts store.
Now having said that.. I've seen nothing but good quality from the motorcraft filters. I've just not personaly talked to someone who knows first hand where they are made.
Oh and for what it's worth.. I had a friend with a nicely built 300ish hp 327 loose his motor because of a fram filter. (The case split from high oil pressure) I'd only ever buy one of those if I had no other choice.

This link was posted on another forum, and I found it to be quite interesting. We've all seen those sites where they cut open oil filters and compare them, but this one seems to be the most informative and easy to understand yet. Instead of being about various filters, it only deals with Motorcraft FL 820s equivalents.

i use motorcraft oil and filters becuase the price is right, plus ford puts there name on it, so it works for me.
the only time i ran a cheap filter and bulk oil in my truck was when i ran some stuff in it to free up a valve that was sticking.
