At a loss to resolve lean code po174
Im not a pro mech just a garage guy and i have a lean code on a rebuild i did.
2004 ranger v6 4L in a 2005 mazda b4000
going by the short and long fuel trims on that bank which show (on the long) 25% at idle and when at 2500rpm drops to 15% all things i can find on the internet say vacuum leak. Ive used all the gimmicks - brake clean, propane, a smoking paper bundle and a hone made smoke machine and i couldnt find a whisp of smoke anywhere except out of the tps and a bit at the egr. I happened to have access to a cheap new egr for 20$ and put it on. I was zeroed in on the pcv valve and tightened it although that attachment on this engine is ridiculous it seems to be ok.
o2 sensors all work happily, symptoms are lower fuel mileage, somewhat hard start, somewhat rough at idle.... loud and somewhat smokey at exhaust
On inspection the plugs show lean condition on that bank, im running out of things to check..
fuel injectors? Fuel rail blockage..?
the second issue is the evap system wont pressure up, the valve at the cannister is a poor fit. Theres two types of can apparently 1 with and 1 without a hose nipple. The previous owner diy’d it by cutting off the nipple and shoving it together. I cant seem to find what connects the nipple version to the valve as both pieces dont connect directly any ideas?
new parts
egr
tps
maf
pcv valve +pipe and elbow
bank to valve cover
timing chains and rebuild done by me (heavy equipment mechanic)
plugs, cords and coil pack
fuel filter
heads were tested during rebuild and the #1 cylinder has a helicoil in it, done right and works well
a bunch of undercarriage stuff, its a project to see if i could do it and only has value to me as a learning experience +handy to have a little truck :)
