HELLO i have a 1999 ford ranger xlt 4.0 v6 my overdrive light blinks on and of when the computer figures out theres somthing wrong with the transmission and it will shift from 1st 2nd and when it trys to go into 3rd and rev bombs. it also wont shift into 1st after a while until i let off the gas i talked to some people and they told me to change the tranny filter and gasket and of course it did nothing i was looking if maybe it could be the one of the solenoids or something i want to see i i could just fix it before having to just change the transmission.

 

you need to have a transmission shop/ garage pull the code. the blinking OD light tells you there is a stored code

 

How many miles on your '99?
+1 on reading the code(s). Decide what to do then.
If "just change the transmission" is the decision, I'd have mine rebuilt.
