Help mazda ford swap
Help!!! I had a 97 mazda b4000 with a bad motor. I took a 2004 ford ranger motor and harness and dropped it IN the mazda as well as the ford transmition. I turn the key 5 times to reset the fuel and the intera switch is fine. Itwont start on its own but if I put gas on the intake it starts breifly. I am stuck on stupid racking my brain as to why? Does the return need to be hooked up to start? Pls any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum
Can't use a 1997 Ranger or Mazda 4.0l engine in a 2001 or up Ranger, from 1990-2000 it is a 4.0l OHV engine
2004 Ranger/Mazda had a 4.0l SOHC engine, so different engines and different computers and wiring harness
If 2004 had a 2.3l or 3.0l then also won't work, wrong computer/wiring, and you can't swap out computer in a 2004 Ranger because instrument cluster was married to it
Plus other things
In a 2004-2011 Ranger you must use the same engine model to match its computer, period, can be from a Mazda or an Explorer or a Mustang, thats not the issue, has to be the same model engine, thats the issue
There are many 4.0l engine models, Ford had 2, Jeep/AMC has one, Chevy/GM has at least one, Audi has one
4 liters(4.0l) doesn't mean its the same as all other 4.0ls
