Cover over oil pump drive removal

Welcome to the forum
Not a cap, its the drive, remove the bolt and "fork" holder
Then pry up the drive "cap", it just has a rubber o-ring holding it, plus any friction, on gear and oil pump rod
Drive looks like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/pH8AA...KSY/s-l300.jpg
After holder is off you can try rotating the crank back and forth with a socket wrench
The gear drive is angled and moving the crank/cam can push it up
The rod for the pump should stay in the pump, it has a clip that holds it

Good work
Thanks for the update
Just as a heads up, the 4.0l OHV changed cranks in 1997, from 6 bolt holes to 8 bolt holes on rear flange
No difference as far as the engine is concerned, but the flywheel/flexplate from a 1990 to 1996 is 6 hole, and 1997-2000 is 8 hole, so they are not interchangeable
Good read here on changes to 4.0l OHV over its 10 year life: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...0rebuild.shtml
