broken fuel line

broken fuel line
The fuel pressure regulator on my 1990 Ranger, 4.0 l, has a fuel line 90 degree coupeler broke. it happened on reassembly of the intake manifold i was replcing the gaskets on. the line appears to be a nylon fuel line but is covered by a braided metal line. Question: Is the braided line there only to protect the fuel line from heat? Question 2: will the doorman part number fuel line 800-051 splice into that line after removing some of the metal braiding? how do I fix this problem?
