94 4.0 OHV timing chain
As of tyesterday I'm a ranger owner. Traded my T-bird for it. Needs timing chain replaced the po has already got it tore down to the chain but was scared to go any further. My question is with the cover off are the dots on the 2 sprockets suppose to point too each other because with the crank dot facing the top of the motor the cam sprocket dot is about 2 teeth too the right as you would see it from in front of the motor. Or do I put the cover back on and line it up that way. Thanks Shawn

Ok so here's an update I found the dots on the sprockets to still be lined up when piston 1 on tdc. Went ahead and changed the timing chain anyway since it was already torn down. Put everything back together it will turn over but will not start checked spark and fuel and have both. Talked to the previous owner and asked what happened . He said he was driving and the motor just shut down no noises didn't lock up it just stopped and someone told him it had to be the timing chain is why he tore it down. Any suggestions on what to check next would be great. Thanks Shawn
