Ranger ignition keys have a built-in failure issue?
I had a mechanic tell me recently that the keys and lock used with the Ranger (the double-sided ones with the pattern cut in from the side) are trash, "the worst key design he has ever seen". He says he has seen many vehicles where that type of lock has failed
His claim is that the lock will fail, jamming the key in the lock so it cannot be removed, but won't work, forcing a tow plus replacement of the ignition lock.
Anyone heard of that issue? Personally it sounds like BS to me, but you never know.

Was news to me also.
He said it was widespread with that type of key, but I'm pretty doubtful. Not seeing any mention of it here, although probably most don;t have a lot of miles on yet. I have about 60,000 miles, most put on in the first 4 years, about 1200 miles at a time.
The claim was it happens after 100,000 miles, which not many of us will have on the truck yet, so who knows?
