Yep, the Edge is gone, its now the Sport. I think there is a car or some weird vehicle that is going to wear the Edge badging now.

I know this engine is going into the Ford 500 as well as the Freestyle which was being said since their introduction. This engine is to replace the 3.0L DOHC engine all together and probably will see its way into the next gen. Ranger to replace the 4.0L SOHC engine.

I've never liked the lower cubic inches being the top of the line. If the ranger is to be bigger in the next life, if there is a next life, it will need to compete BETTER than the competitors. I think the 3.5 250hp motor is kickass.....but come on. I don't want to be driving a toyota sized "big" engine. What ever happend to "there's no replacement for displacement"???? Ford, give us a powerfull, economic, 4.6 DOHC v8 as top of the line lil truck!!!! How bout a modified 4.0L, to make it around 300cu in w/ around 300hp. FORD.....let's see 1hp per cubic inch!!!! I'd definately buy one.

Ranger will never sport a V8
more powerful 6 cylinder but not a V8
if you want an 8 buy an F-150
let's all hope for a more efficent (more power less displacement) gas engine and finally a small diesel which is what this truck really needs going forward

4.0 L= 244.095 cu in
it would have to be 4.9L to = 300 cu in

If ford would bring the diesel or a similar spec one that they sell in many other countries to the us.. I'd trade mine in.. in about 3.5seconds.
I think the numbers were something like 170hp 300ft-lb 30mpg!

Yeah a diesel is the only way I would buy a new ranger.

Yeah the new Edge they are talking about is basiclly a little SUV on the fusion plateform.

Edit: that new motor is basiclly a punched out escape motor, I would like to see it in the 500 and the escape, like most DOHC motors the torque is up at like 4K rpm or something so IMO it would not make a good truck motor at least not for towing or hauling, but it would be good in lowered ranger STX.
