How to find rear end gear ratios???

How to find rear end gear ratios???

I have 1999 ford ranger sport and i was wondering how i would find the rear end gear ratio with out opening up my rear end?

Should be a tag on the axle

Also check the driver's side door jam for the axle code.

What if your door jam sticker ain't there?? Mine was scratched off when I got the truck.. Don't know why, it's caused me a pain in the @$$.

or you can jack the rear up, turn the tire one full turn and count the revs of the drive shaft. It'll give a close-enough measurement to assume a stock gear ratio.

Where on the diff would the tag be located? (pic?) Hopefully it didn't get removed either...
