How can anyone help you unless you elaborate much more about what is happening. When does your rough idle happen when the engine is cold, warm or hot, in gear, in neutral ? When exactly does the popping noise happen. Where does the noise come from on the vehicle. Does it get louder or quieter at idle ,under acceleration. Did you do any work to your truck lately and this started happening as a result.

The more specific your question is the more specific your answer is going to be.

Did you check Compression? Valve clearance, lobe lift?

What you want to do is gather evidence. When tracking down a problem and I am unsure where to start I always start with the basics. Do I have good compression, Is the timing correct, Do I have spark, Do I have good fuel delivery, etc. You can go deeper once you establish whether the problem is Compression related, Fuel related, or Ignition related.

Look up cam position sensor and synchronizer installation or replacement in this forum. There is a tool and a procedure to install them. If you just replaced the sensor without the tool or follow the procedure that could be your problem.

If you give me your email I can send you the procedure

this may sound crazy and I am learning too but if the engine and valves arent timed correctly...could his pistons be hitting his injectors and what not there for popping/slapping sound and or akward running...just a thought

If the pistons were making contact with anything in the combustion chamber the engine would more than likely be toast.

Without being there and having tested the engine in person all one can do is speculate based on the evidence given by the original poster. He stated in an earlier post he just replaced a cracked head that shouldn't require removal of the timing chain. Assuming he didn't remove the timing chain I must also assume the cam and valve train are still in time mechanically. What I don't know is the condition of the cam or if he removed the cmp and synchronizer and reinstalled it properly.

oh well that made sense. sweet. learning stuff off the internet. we had an old cummins that the pistons were smashing up the injectors and she blew up in about 8 seconds in a little mud. We had to crane the beast out.
