Punctuation please...looks like babble.

The swap is pretty straight forward. Actually....quite easy imo. There's a few threads regarding this subject of the auto to manual swap.

Did one a few weeks back to a buddy's '98 4.0L 4x4 ranger. He blew the trans on a tues, had all the parts on hand by thurs morn, auto trans and everything out on thurs night, test drove the truck as a manual on fri night. And only working nights on the truck. Everything works as it should...but still has the auto trans wiring harness, needs the manual harness to get rid of the 'od' flash, and ability to use the '98 4.0 4x4 manual trans ECU/PCM.

You'll need:

M5od-r1 trans(i reccoment a M5od-r1hd found behind 4.0L SOHC engines)
clutch/brake pedal assy
slave cyl
master cyl
'00 3.0L manual trans ECU/PCM
Clutch Kit(disc, pressure plate, alignment tool, pilot bearing)
Flywheel
Possibly a new starter?
You'll likely need to replace that auto trans harness with a manual harness(ECU to trans harness i believe).

You have to use a manual trans that came from a 3.0.

The bell housing bolt pattern is different. Your 4.0 tranny won't work, sorry.

ah sweet guys. yeah i found the other posts, using the search button haha. also found a tranny at a local yard he wanted 550 for it, seemed like alot but it was also the only place i called... but i fixed the problem the trany had a little too much fluid after topping her off so once it all leaked out it was fine. now i just need to fix the leak which will happen this weekend. im still going to swap her out i just put a post on craigslist for my transmission for 800 bucks so hopefully it sells fast so i can have a manual. does 800 seem like alot or too little well let me know.

hope that is a little better, english was my worst subject in school, which is probably why i swing a hammer for a living, haha...thanks for the replies too guys i really appreciate.

werd. I paid like $400 for '06 manual trans w/ 7k on it. Was $500, but they took a month to actually get the part pulled and I got mad at 'em. $800 is too high...round here a rebuilt auto can be had for about $1200.

It's hit and miss. Some have no problems, others have tons of problems. Me for one has tons of problems....4th slave, 2nd master, 2nd trans, 3rd clutch. BUT...the price i pay to play the manual. I wouldn't have it any other way.

instead of cutting the y pipe couldn't you just unbolt it and bolt it back up when your done. i'm gathering parts to do the swap myself so if you run into any problems give me a heads up : )

You WILL have to drop the Y pipe even with a bodylift...

No cut, it'll bolt on and off.

oh yea...i've been informed from a former RF member that you can indeed pull the trans and case as a complete unit w/o dropping the Ypipe with a bodylift installed. He did this swap as well...and has the most info posted on the site regarding it.
