ACCEL 140035 Ignition Coil
Hello,
This is my first time posting, and it is good to have a forum such as this.
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L v6, best truck I ever had... I recently purchased and ACCEL 140035 Ignition Coil off Amazon. I checked many sites first to see if this was a match for my truck and all came up the same. When I replaced the factory ignition coil with the new ACCEL ignition coil, I noticed the primary ignition connection had to be flipped over to connect. When I tried to start the truck nothing happened but a single clunk. I put the old one back on and all is good. Has anyone had any problems like this. Could the coil be bad or is there a different placement of plug wires to match how the primary connection has changed?

There are 4 wires on the coil connector
Red wire is the 12volts to power all THREE of the primary coils in the pack
The other 3 wires are Grounds to power and unpower the 3 coils inside.
Any coil works the same way, power Primary up with 12volts and Ground, then cut the power and secondary with spark with thousands of volts.
Originally Points were used in a distributor to cut and restore the Ground on a coil, Ground was just the easier way to power and unpower the Primary coil
So those 3 ground wires set the firing order of the 3 coils in that pack
When you reversed the connector you reversed the firing order, so no start
Not a big deal, you just need to change the spark plug wires around on the coil pack
Each coil sparks 2 spark plugs at the same time, it is called a Waste spark system.
The "Matched sets" are 1/5, 2/6, 3/4
So coil pack can look like this
1 5
2 6
3 4
Front
or
3 4
2 6
1 5
front
or
5 1
6 2
4 3
front
2/6 will always be in the middle
so just swap ends on the 1/5 and 3/4 wires
And 1/5 or 5/1 orientation doesn't matter they both spark at the same time

Thanks for the info. I have been wanting to improve performance in my ranger little by little.
I replaced the standard air filter with a cold air intake, replaced the plugs and wires with NGK brand. I am also adding an SKL Motorworks performance chip. I replaced the fuel filter as well.
Do you have any suggestions for a more complete tune up to give life back to my ranger. It has 165000 miles on it.
