Icon9 Engine Runs Too Lean

My check engine light came on yesterday about an hour after filling up with gas. Shortly after that I got a noise that developed only when I accelerate. It sounds like when you drive over loose gravel and it spits up under your car. A sort of crackling. But like I said this noise only happens when I accelerate.I got a p1071 reading that said my engine bank was running too lean. My buddies scanner read the MAF sensor and didn't read that it was faulty. I think the whole car is falling apart because after I reset the code my second gear slips now. I have an automatic. Any ideas?

I bought it new two weeks ago. How can the spark plugs affect the engine to make it run too lean?

Would a clogged fuel filter cause this?

I would say you got a bad tank of gas. The noise you described sounds like pre-ignition, called "pinging", which would come from bad gas.

Could bad gas that had water in it mess up my o2 sensor? The pinging doesn't seem to be as bad as it was. But my check engine light keeps coming on. It usually comes on after I clear the cod after I turn the car off and then back on. I have loaded it up with fuel antifreeze and water remover and fuel injector cleaner. Any thoughts? Could it just be the 02 sensor now?
