Dropping a 2.5L in a 4x4 body..
Hi, I've got a 99 ranger motor 2.5L freshly rebuilt last year with about 5k on it.
The body for my pickup isn't so nice however and won't pass inspection in my state PA. I'm considering swapping the motor into a healthy chassis. At the same time I'm looking to see if I can pick up 4x4 capability found in the 6cyl models.
The bellhousings appear to match up correctly from what I can see online. Looking to find some experience regarding fitment of the 2.5 on a 4x4 chassis.
What sort of issues I'm going to run into aside of motor mounts and electrical?
Thank you for any knowledge!

Bell housings don't match, 2.3l/2.5l SOHC Lima engines won't bolt to any transmission except from another 2.3l/2.5l Lima
2WD and 4x4 transmissions are different and not interchangeable, so you need a 4x4 transmission
Manual or automatic?
Manual 4x4 trans will need to be from a 1990-1997 2.3l 4x4 not alot of these around
Automatic would need to be from a 1995-1997 2.3l 4x4, even less of these around, people that got the 4cyl Rangers usually wanted best MPG, so got manuals not automatics
Transfer case will bolt to either
Yes you would use your current 1999 computer and engine wiring harness, 2WD or 4x4 didn't matter to computer, manual or automatic did matter
1995 to 2003 4x4 Ranger would be years you could use, 2004 and up were "digital" so major wiring and cost issues
1998-2000 4x4 would require less changes in wiring and fuel system, so easiest of the years to use
