Air box mod?

I've been reading some about the air box mod (removing the air silencer). Im just wondering about how it sounds? Can you hear it from the inside of the truck? Does it sound cool? I was going to do it tonight, but I didn't want to b/c its getting getting late.

You may hear a little whistle when the throttle is at a certain point. And it sounds a little better. But it's hardly noticeable.

Not to hijack your thread or anything but is this mod just for sound purposes or does it have any performance gains? Sounds simple enough to do.

you might get 1/2 hp out of it... just lets more air into your filter box...

Jury's still out on the performance. And if it affects it at all, you prolly wouldn't be able to notice it. It's mostly just sound.

I need to try this one day, but my airbox is a pita to get out, that's all that's holding me back.

Yea, our 4.0's or mine was a b!tch to get out. Just go get an intake, you'll be much happier.

I don't know why they are so much harder to get out. I can't afford an intake . This is a FREE mod and makes noise(I love it, but the family hates it).

Years ago, I did 0-60 runs with my truck and it made a difference that was measureable, but only about 1-2 HP.

At low RPM it does NOTHING. It's at WOT that you are able to suck more air, lol.

It is something you can hear from inside the cab. Mine doesn't whistle at all, but then I have a modified MAF and throttle body so that may be why.

I have the airbox and MAF mods done. Both were easy and didn't cost me anything. I love the sound as well.

If you dont have exhaust you'll be able to notice the sound... before I had anything done to my truck, i hacked up my airbox and it sounded pretty good and def. noticable.

Does anyone have a video/sound clip of the sound? Or maybe I shouldn't be so lazy and find out for my self.

Yeah, it's a totally reversible mod -- so get out there and do it, oh you lazy boy!

with my K&N you notice a loud vaccum of air when you first hit the gas if you give it alot of throttle. Very noticeable inside and outside the truck.

It seems alittle louder in the cab now. Its kinda like having an exhaust without actually having one.

When you really hit the gas you get this "WAAAHHHHHWWWW" sound that I love. Makes me feel like my 3.0 is really doing something...until I look at the speedo, lol...

Is this any different on a 94 4banger? I just tried to do it, but it is dark out. Seems like my lower airbox is attatched in a different way

I did it ! It took me 5 minutes on my 02 2.3 I am thinking about opening the air box more by enlarging the intake hole to 4 inchs with a right angle drill and a Hole saw then using a 4 inch Toliet Ring smooth everything up.
