95 Ford Ranger 2.3 l crankshaft position sensor wiring

I'm confused on how the wiring works for these sensors because it's a two prong and there's a third wire that's wrapped inside the initial wiring wrap that isn't connected to the connector and there's no spot for but I get continuity from it and I'm not sure if I must have supposed to get continuity from the connector but I'm not getting anything and I wanted to double-check to see if that is somehow supposed to be intertwined with one of the original wires or how it's supposed to to work

I noticed my camshaft is wired the same way except I actually get continuity from one of the prongs regardless of that third unconnected wire being on the connector or not
