86 No CEL Light
Question
my 86 ranger doesn't have a CEL on the dash, and I can't jump the port under the hood to get my codes....the truck will run fine and perfect, but will all of the sudden turn over but not crank....walk away, come back 30/45min later, Cranks right up....don't ever die when I'm driving, only when I try to crank it....Any way for me to pull codes?
thanks in advance

Yes, you can use a 12v test light or volt meter to get the 2 digit codes

Use a 12v test light instead of volt meter if you want
If the crank but no start happens only after engine bay is warmer then its possible that the TFI module or Coil has become heat sensitive
You can carry a bottle of water and when there is a No Start pour some on ONE of the above, and then see if it starts quicker, give it a minute or two for water to cool it off

Manual or Automatic trans?
Ford OBD1 2-digit code list here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...it-ford-codes/
23 Throttle sensor out of range or throttle set too high – TPS
31 EVP – (O, R, M) EVP signal is/was out of range – EVP
EVR – (O, R, M) EVP signal is/was low – EVR
PFE – (O, R, M) PFE signal is/was low – PFE
67 Park/Neutral circuit fault – PNP
Transmission Manual Lever Position (MLP) sensor circuit – Transmissions
(M) Intermittent Park Neutral Position (PNP) sensor fault – PNP
23 means someone may have adjusted the Anti-diesel screw on the throttle linkage to raise idle, or throttle is not closing all the way
31 means your 1986 2.3 has an EGR system and its sensor is read low Exhaust flow when computer opens the EGR valve
67 is transmission specific, but means the Neutral switch has been jumped or is not working
