2.5 trouble

I have a 2.5l sohc it barely runs won’t idle and won’t drive dies. The I have changed egr pcv timeing belt verified timing many times replace crankshaft sensor and can shaft sensor checked wiring compression is fine gas is fine changed fuel filter. The only code it kept throwing was bad can shaft sensor it lost voltage at plug on pcm going to cam shaft sensor. I figured this was bad pcm. It should lots of corrosion on pcm when I took it apart. Picked used pcm At u pullit and have same problem nothing I have done has changed it at all except go rid of some codes it had shown originally. I’m stumped. Any one have any ideas

Welcome to the forum

Assume a 1998 to 2000 Ranger?

2.5l is a stroked 2.3l Lima engine, 2.3l was used since 1976, so very reliable engine and fairly trouble free.
So your 2.5l has a different crank and longer connecting rods but everything else is 2.3l, just FYI.
When trouble shooting include or use 2.3l lima engine instead of 2.5l which was only around for 3 years.

Reads like you have changed alot of things which is not good, hard to pin point a problem with so many changes.

Crank sensors rarely fail and when they do it is a No Start, no spark no fuel, and they are not intermittent, 100% or 0%

Cam sensor is a secondary sensor on the 2.5l Lima, wouldn't cause your symptoms, less MPG and some sluggishness maybe

Can you test fuel pressure?
1998 and up Rangers should have 60psi fuel pressure at the fuel rail, injectors, there is a test port, looks like a tires air valve, a schrader valve.

If not then get a can of Quick Start(ether) or a spray bottle with gasoline in it
Remove air tube from intake
Open throttle manually, spray fuel into intake
Close throttle
Have someone try to start the engine
After it starts spray fuel at throttle plate to see if you can keep it running/idling

If you can remember the exact code numbers it would be helpful, no guessing.
The codes the computer CHOOSES to use are important
But the codes the computer DOES NOT choose are just as important, these tell you want it ISN'T, lol

Your issue reads like too much air or not enough fuel, so the wrong air/fuel mix
Large vacuum leak or low fuel pressure

Thank you for reply
I well try that tommorrow I thought originally it was a vacuum leak because we could partially restrict air intake it would run better. That’s when we found and replaced bad egr and bad pcv valve. I’ll write down any codes and reply tommorow I’m not where the truck is now.

checked fuel pressure today it was 15 psi which way to low fuel filter was fine. So pulled the bed and fuel pump. The fuel pump has been replaced before I have a lifetime warranty so swapped it out back to 65 psi and the truck runs great now. No more codes. Thanks for the help. I’m sure I’ll be needing more help or can help someone else here so I’ll keep reading the forum.
