Icon13 2.3L with no cats .... um no...

Well been running my cat back 40 flow for a while.. well on the way up to silver lake the bolt flange after the cat just destroyed itself. and took it to the shop i go to. he also found my cat was split down the side.. so it is now straight piped.

with a 40 flow.. it is WAY to loud.. maybe i am getting old..

anyone recommend a good less noisy muffler?

thinking Gibson or Borla.. cant remember the quiet one's tho...

my cat did the same thing, and i did the same thing haha.

i agree, the flowmaster 40 was way to loud without the cat, i would say go with a magnaflow and get everything rebent for the bodylift.

Dyno max super turbo muffler. Its melow and much quiter than the Flowmaster i have the Flowmaster 40 series on now and i love them. I have the dynomax super turbo muffler that i took off of it for sale, it was only on my truck for two weeks. Contact me if your interested $35 buck plus shipping. Cheap!

I did this battle on my truck a couple months ago. You know I have no cats on my truck and I had the Flo 44 and Flo 50 delta, both were rather loud. I ended up with a Borla Pro XS. That's what I have on my truck now (and at the dunes). It sounds nice and loud on the outside, but inside the truck is very quiet! It is a huge difference, very little cab noise at all. Plus its an all stainless steeel construction so it will last a while 2.

having no cats on a 4 cyl makes it raspy sounding. My roomate recently put an F2 header on his 2007 Zx3, and the cat is attached to the stock manifold, so it went bye-bye! I constantly nag on him for having to stare at a CEL and how his car isnt so PZEV now haha.

Out of Borla and Gibson, if you are wanting something a little quieter- i'd go with Gibson, you cant really tell it's there unless you really mash on the gas.

I hate to change the subject but my cat is getting clogged and i was wondering since im 18 and noise does not bother me right now lol, but did you lose any power by taking it off? i know you lost some but was it noticeable?

Hmmm i heard some say that on the 2.3 taking the cat off would not render it powerless, but since you have done it and said you didnt notice anything im considering doing it til i can work out my new exhaust system
