Throttle Body Spacer

i was wondering if any of you guys have had any good luck with the throttle body spacers being better gas milegae like they claim they do. About 3-4 MPG better. I was just wondering if this is accurate and worth it for only $100 to get 3-4 more MPG better a gas tank...thats pretty good I think...anyways I just wanted to know if any one have heard any goods things or can let me know if it's worth it or not...

they claim to mix the air and fuel.... if ya had a carb'd motor then the spacer might work... but on fuel injected the injectors spray the fuel into the combustion chamber, not before it... they make a whistle sound if u like annoying noises :)

Yeah I have one, and haven't noticed any difference at all except a dent in my wallet. When I get the chance, I'm going to take it off and sell it on ebay.......

I don't have one on my Ranger(and doubt if I will),but did put one(Motormotion) on my K-1500....as noted by others, really no gain in mpg,the only thing I noticed was better throttle response.....it does make a cool TEA KETTLE sound!!!

TB spacers are the biggest scam I have seen in recent years I am amazed that they are still on the market.

As I've posted in many of these topics, in the days of downdraft, short plenum intake systems they had their place.

But long plenum side draft systems see no benefit at all and may suffer a LOSS. This is because the energy spent swirling the air comes out of the linear velocity and what that means in short words is extra air flow resistance and reduced flow.

I'm sure that's true. I wonder if they might help old TBI type injection systems though like they helped carbeurators? Or was TBI efficient enough in the mixing?

i would bet it would help with TBI.........i dont think the TBI was efficient enough to mix the fuel properly.....the air and fuel dont have any time to mix when the air is forced by the fuel injector in the TBI......only about 1/2 the air / fuel will mix because there isn't an injection all the way around the intake tube insid the TB.......the spacer allows extra time for it to mix along with the spiraled grooves spiral the air and act like a mixer out of your wife's kitchen...

the reason it dont help the fuel injection is like was stated above, the fuel isn't mixed in the TB it is mixed in the ignition chamber itself.......

Absolutely. And by the time the air gets to the chamber, the "swirl" should be pretty much gone ANYWAY due to friction on the way down and through the bends.

I bought one for mine and haven't noticed any improvement, just an annoying whistling sound and less money in my pocket.I may take it off.Don't waste your time and money on one.Thats my opinion.

I have a theory... maybe SOME people think they work because they pull your throttle cable if there's slack, I put zip ties on the pedal spring and it had much better response and ran even better than when I got it. PS I just tried installing a TBS and TWO OF THE SUPPLIED BOLTS BROKE! It caused problems with my CAI position AND it was too long so when I started my truck it was already almost floored!
