Protect your ranger from thiefs

You would think the Dealerships would require
proof of ownership first. (Naw ---a lot of them just want
to "serve the customer" so they can make a buck.)

Seems that car thieves have found yet another way to
steal your car or truck without any effort at all.

The car thieves peer through the windshield of your
car or truck, write down the VIN # from the label on
the dash, go to the local car dealership and request a
duplicate key based on the VIN #.

The Car Dealer's Parts Department will make a
duplicate key from the VIN # and collect payment
from the thief who will return to your car.
He doesn't have to break in, do any damage
to the vehicle, or draw attention to himself.
All he has to do is walk up to your car, insert
the key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop with your
vehicle.

To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some
tape (electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape)
across the VIN Metal Label located on the
dash board. By law, you cannot remove the VIN, but you
can cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield by
a car thief.

but isn't the vin number supposed to be all over your truck so you can identify it....so couldn't they just get it somewhere else... the tape would just make it a little bit harder

If someone really wants in your vehicle or the whole thing, they will get it. Just get full coverage insurance and call it good.

thats the way i feel, an alarm and all the crap is just a deterrant...real theives know how to bypass EVERYTHING...if they want your car...they will just take it, tow it whatever they have to do...then they figure out the more tricky stuff

full coverage for loss of your car by insurence is a joke. if u have a loan on the said vehical for 15K. insurence will only give you like 12K. even tho when you took out insurence on said car it was worth 18K. yet you still pay the same amount of insurence, even tho your car is no longer worth as much. seriously, id be more worried about the sharks that insurence companies are than car theives.

Yeah, sad but true. I have seen keys cut for people without having proof of ownership.

I have been at a dealership when someone has come in requesting a key to be cut and they made him bring the vehicle registration and a driver's license proving they were the owner. They said they would not cut a key without it.He complained that he couldn't get into the vehicle because he had no key so how was he supposed to get the registration? They told him to have it towed into the dealership and they would get it taken care of for him.He left pissed off saying the dealer was only trying to make money when really they were just trying to protect him,if he was the actual owner. If the dealer happens to make money on it,so be it,they aren't the ones who lost the key in the first place!
